Sensio’s "LIVE 3D" technology STANDS OUT AT IBC

SENSIO Technologies Inc., inventor of the SENSIO®3D technology, will participate once again in the yearly International Broadcasting Convention 2008 (IBC), held in Amsterdam, with its partner International Datacasting Corporation (“IDC”) (TSX: IDC). SENSIO will take this opportunity to promote its live stereoscopic content broadcasting technology (Live 3D). “While we have already signed an agreement with IDC and Access Integrated Technologies, Inc. (“AccessIT”) (NASDAQ: AIXD) regarding the distribution of our Live 3D technology on the American market, we also wish to begin deployment on the European market shortly. SENSIO’s involvement in IBC 2008 will enable us to demonstrate its technology’s quality and reliability to major industry players. As live 3D event broadcasting becomes more popular, SENSIO must continue to secure its position as market leader,” comments Nicholas Routhier, President and Chief Executive Officer.

At this time, SENSIO remains the only corporation in the world to have successfully integrated its live 3D content broadcasting technology throughout a network of movie theaters. The SENSIO system’s vastly superior picture quality, combined with its durability and reliability, enabled the company to pull ahead of the pack, position itself as market leader, and sign its first major distribution contract. “We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished up until now and plan to keep our momentum going by deploying our product in other markets,” added Mr. Routhier.

SENSIO and its partner will combine their technical know-how at the IDC kiosk during the IBC 2008 conference to demonstrate a live 3D content broadcast simulation. Through a 3D camera system, a SENSIO encoder, IDC’s broadcasting technology and a SENSIO decoder, visitors will be able to film and view themselves live in 3D on a SpectronIQ ACL HD 3D television. SENSIO’s Live 3D encoder and decoder can also be used in live broadcasts of cultural or sporting events on digital movie screens using current distribution networks and 2D equipment. Furthermore, broadcasters will soon be able to showcase these events on home systems through existing cable television or pay-per-view networks.

SENSIO participates in an IBC conference

Invited as a guest speaker in a discussion panel on a day dedicated to digital cinema during IBC 2008, Mr. Routhier will talk about the risks regarding real time 3D event production and their live broadcast. Renowned for his extensive industry expertise, he will detail the current technological solutions that may simplify live 3D event broadcasting and address all predetermined issues. Of course, he will also take this opportunity to give a full presentation of the technology developed by SENSIO. “Our involvement not only confirms that industry members are aware of SENSIO’s knowledge, but also that it has gained recognition in the industry. What’s more, this is an excellent venue to promote SENSIO’s technology and increase its visibility towards major players,” explains Mr. Routhier, who will rub elbows with experts from several important companies, such as Warner Bros Entertainment, during this conference held on September 15.

Guinness World Record Attempt for Tetris Tournament

To celebrate its third anniversary, The Personal Computer Museum in Brantford, Ontario has been given the go ahead by the London, England-based Guinness World Records(TM) corporation and the Tetris® Company, LLC to attempt to establish a new record for the most participants in a Tetris Tournament on September 13, 2008. The event will also feature hands-on stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) gaming demonstrations by Meant to be Seen, the foremost authority group on consumer S-3D technology.

“Tetris” is one of the leading video game brands and franchises in the world. Loved globally by people of all ages and all cultures, “Tetris” continues to be one of the most widely recognized video games of all time.

Over the course of four rounds of competition, participants will attempt the challenge between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with the top eight contestants being eliminated to a final “face-off” between the top two players. These players will challenge each other in a head-to-head Tetris competition until a final victor is declared.

“‘Tetris’ is becoming more of a spectator and competitive game than ever before. However, this tournament isn’t about how good you are. We want as many participants as possible, and of course, as much fun as possible,” said Syd Bolton, Curator of the Personal Computer Museum.

While “Tetris” is a two dimension game, it is going to be a truly three dimension event. Meant to be Seen will also be demonstrating modern S-3D gaming solutions. Similar to the experience movie goers get in 3D theaters, consumer gamers use S-3D technology at home for superior game immersion, visual beauty and game enjoyment. Explosions flying out of the screen and depth that makes the screen look like a window rather than a flat projection are samples of S-3D gaming. Available hardware includes iZ3D 3D monitors, TDVision head mounted displays, and a growing selection of 3D HDTVs by Samsung, SpectronIQ, and more.

“There is a lot of excitement around these new 3D gaming technologies, and this will add a lot of fun to the event,” said Neil Schneider, President & CEO of Meant to be Seen.

The Tetris Company’s licensing agent Blue Planet Software, Inc. will also be working with the Personal Computer Museum to make the event an energy neutral one because the Tetris® brand is a proud supporter of clean energy initiatives.

Special displays including a children’s area, a unique “Tetris® Video Wall” and video documentaries as well as free tours of the museum will ensure a fun day for the whole family. The personal computer museum has over 300 functioning computers and gaming systems dating back to 1976.

Interested parties can register the day of the competition, or to save time early registration is available on the web at www.tetristournament.ca. A $5 registration fee is required for all participants, and all registrants will receive an official participation certificate after the event.

VisuMotion showcases 3D Camera to shoot real 3D videos for glasses-free 3D-Displays – "Seeing is Believing" at IBC 2008

At the IBC 2008 show taking place in Amsterdam, VisuMotion shows off its ground-breaking 3D camera “Eye5” that allows 3D capturing of cross-platform footage for use with glasses-free and glasses-based 3D-displays. VisuMotion will exhibit this new technology at booth number C80 in hall 11 in form of a live/live transmission from the 3D camera to a multi-user 3D-display.

The new 3D camera is available for rental services and purchasing as of now. By means of this astonishing technology, for the first time in the history of the 3D industry it is possible to create real video footage independent from the 3D-display type that is used later on for the depiction of the takes.

The use of glasses-free 3D displays is rapidly increasing worldwide, particularly for digital signage applications, 3D gaming, research and development as well as for medicine and Virtual Reality setups. Independent market researches foresee a worldwide turnover of 3D products of several 100,000,000 Euros by 2010.

VisuMotion’s product portfolio also includes 3D Rendering Plug-ins for Autodesk’s 3D Studio Max and Maya, the Compositing and Editing Software “3D StreamLab”, the 3D Application Driver “DeepOutside3D” as well as the playback software “3D Movie Center”.

The multi-stream (multi-view) rendering required for autostereoscopic 3D displays is executed by means of the plug-ins for the well-known animation packages. This means, 3D animations (or still pictures) are automatically rendered in various perspective views.

The work flow seamlessly leads to the 3D Editing and Compositing solution “3D StreamLab” that allows the simultaneous postproduction of all different video streams (i.e. the multiple views).

3D Content creators will both benefit from the unique high-speed rendering algorithms implemented in this master piece of software and profit by the fact that once 3D videos are rendered and cut by VisuMotion software, these can be played back on nearly any type of 3D display that is commercially available now and in the future. The whole content creation work flow can also be applied for 3D digital cinema content creation.

To complete the 3D solution chain, VisuMotion provides the 3D playback software “3D Movie Center” which is available as Library and Network Edition.

The Library Edition runs on a stand-alone PC that drives a (single) 3D display. In order to increase the customer benefit, from now on each license of the Library Edition includes an ActiveX-license by means of which the user may integrate a 3D-playback into own applications.

The Network Edition enables to control a network setup of 3D displays. Up to now it was impossible to combine 3D displays of different manufacturers in such a network when being driven by a single server. This limitation has now been overcome thanks to VisuMotion’s software solutions. And even more: The 3D Movie Center is downward compatible to usual two-dimensional footage which means such display networks can be formed by 3D and 2D displays at the same time.

The product “DeepOutside3D” allows the glasses-free 3D visualisation of certain DirectX based applications such as 3D games. A completely new feature is also the support of certain OpenGL based applications. A well thought-trough license algorithm provides for the fact that the user only pays the support for those applications that he really uses.

Under the Sea 3D To Splash Into IMAX(R) Theatres On February 13, 2009

Warner Bros. Pictures and IMAX Corporation have confirmed that the release date for the next original IMAX® 3D release, Under the Sea 3D, will be February 13, 2009. The film follows the box office hit Deep Sea 3D, also shot by award-winning Cinematographer/Director Howard Hall, which has grossed more than $72 million to date.

Four of the planned filming expeditions for Under the Sea 3D have been completed, with the final expedition to Indonesia scheduled to take place at the end of September through October 2008. The filmmaking team, including Howard Hall, producer Toni Myers, executive producer Graeme Ferguson and producer for Howard Hall Productions Michele Hall, has captured some of the most extraordinary marine life ever shot on film including the Stonefish – the world’s most venomous fish – and a new species of shark yet to be described by science. Hall and his crew also filmed South Australia’s exquisite Leafy Sea Dragon and the endangered puppy-like Sea Lion – animals that can be found nowhere else on Earth. Filming with the IMAX 3D camera, the highest resolution motion picture camera ever created, will allow the filmmakers to immerse audiences in this amazing underwater world as never before – bringing them face-to-face with these magical creatures. The film will also provide an extraordinary look at the current conditions of our oceans and the impact global climate change has had on these unique eco-systems.

“For Under the Sea 3D we’ve traveled to some of the most exotic locations on this planet, allowing us to film many creatures for the first time,” said Howard Hall. “Through IMAX 3D, audiences will be immersed fully into this amazing undersea world – a world which only a few of us lucky individuals really get to see up close.”

“Deep Sea 3D continues to deliver a premium cinematic experience that keeps moviegoers returning to IMAX® theatres year after year and we are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Howard and Michelle Hall,” said Dan Fellman, president, domestic distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. “We look forward to having Howard’s latest journey come to life on IMAX screens on February 13, 2009.”

“From South Australia to the Indo-Pacific, audiences will witness amazing deep sea life in the grand scale and immersiveness of IMAX 3D,” said Greg Foster, chairman and president, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Thanks to our partners at Warner Bros. and the amazing talents of our filmmakers, audiences will encounter a spectacular marine world alive with magical creatures and also emerge with a new understanding of how important it is to protect it.”
